Elijah Wood stars as a young Jewish American touring the Ukraine in search of the woman who saved his grandfather's life during the Holocaust. Beginning as a hilarious road trip film, the movie takes a turn toward the dark as the American and his Ukrainian guides finally begin to come to terms with the Holocaust past that haunts their lives far more than they care to admit. Based on a novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, the film (rated PG-13 for violence and sexual language) addresses themes of remembrance, concealed pasts, and the Holocaust's legacy. Grades 8 and up.
