Stanley Kubrick's classic 1964 comedy offers a darkly humorous vision of the dangers of nuclear warfare. Sterling Hayden plays a paranoid general who seals his base and launches a full scale preemptive B-52 attack against the Russians to "preserve our precious bodily fluids." Peter Sellers offers a triple performance as an R.A.F. captain who frantically tries to stop the attack, the President of the United States, and Dr. Strangelove-the president's wheelchair-riding ex-Nazi science advisor. Although some aspects of the movie are dated, this film is an entertaining supplement to classroom discussion of "the Bomb." Also starring George C. Scott and Slim Pickens. DVD features: scene selection, Spanish subtitles, soundtracks in English, Spanish, or French. Black-and-white. 93 minutes. Columbia.
