By Greg Timmons. Cooperative active-learning lessons and simulations take students deep into the workings of U.S. government and its relationship to citizens. The ten lessons in Volume I concern the structure of government and cover topics such as the roots and principles of democracy, the three branches, checks and balances, federalism, and constitutional rights. The six lessons in Volume II focus on foreign policy, bureaucracy, civic involvement, and politics. Each lesson includes a historical background essay, activity-specific handouts (including graphic organizers), word banks, complete procedures, and assessments. CD-ROMs include the entire volumes in pdf format. Lessons run from three to four class periods, and all may stand alone. Grades 7–12. 8½" x 11". Interact. Approximately 150 pages each. ©2010–11.
