HISTORY CLASS REVISITED

Acknowledging the particular needs of this age group, Passanisi, an eighth-grade history teacher, presents classroom-tested strategies and fun activities that encourage students to connect history to present events, collaborate with others, think critically about important issues, and take ownership of their learning. Topics include reading and analyzing primary and secondary sources, developing and defending written arguments, examining the social contexts of historical events, and tracing the historical underpinnings of present-day issues. Opportunities for assessing progress involve self-reflection, projects, essays, and presentations. Also includes reproducible charts and diagrams, plus a related website.
