Over 100 examples of media manipulation in print, television, and movies illustrate five lesson outlines on media literacy and awareness.
Using advertisements from companies such as Anheuser-Busch, Philip Morris, Kraft, General Mills, and magazines such as Seventeen, Sassy, and Cosmopolitan, the lesson plans explain how to deconstruct the glamorization of alcoholism, the objectification of women, and the seductive lure of consumerism. Lesson plans are viewed in Adobe Acrobat format separately from the clips of advertisements. Live-action clips may be played frame by frame to catch subliminal messages. Caution: Some topics are appropriate for mature audiences only.
