Ken Burns presents the awe-inspiring story of a group of students struggling with complex learning disabilities as they are tasked with memorizing then reciting the Gettysburg Address.
Interweaving the history behind Lincoln’s immortal speech while examining the personal challenges the students face, this emotional documentary paints a picture of how history can lead to triumphs of the human spirit. Camera crews embedded at the tiny Greenwood School in Putney, Vermont document the trials, struggles, and everyday lives of the students as they heroically confront past failures and humiliations, ultimately opening the door to what Lincoln himself called "a new birth of freedom."
