Three gruesome stories about the plague: An eyewitness describes how the city of Florence was devastated in 1348 when the Black Death first reached Europe; in 1349, a group called flagellants travel around whipping themselves in public to show God they are sorry for their sins and to beg him to end the plague; and a fruit seller takes on the job of doctor after regular doctors either flee the city or die.
