The development of the atomic bomb, its use on Japan, contrasting U.S. and Japanese views of that bombing, Cold War nuclear proliferation, and a lack of post–Cold War interest in de-escalation are main topics addressed by archival footage and interviews with experts including Jonathan Schell, Gar Alperovitz, and former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz. Pointing out the continuing nuclear threat, this passionate challenge to the conventional American perspective on nuclear weapons ends with a plea for disarmament and abolition.
