WAVES OF GLOBAL CHANGE
World history is organized into five phases of human development called "waves": communal, agricultural, urban, modern, and global. Distinctive cultural patterns, referred to as "currents," are repeated in each wave, and the book’s eight chapters are built around these waves and currents. Each chapter also includes "Questions to Consider" and "Insights" meant to spur critical thinking. Numerous photos, charts, and graphics heighten understanding of the ideas being presented. The optional 158-page Educator’s Handbook for Teaching a Holistic World History (©2012) provides suggestions and strategies for use in the classroom, and extensive online teacher support materials are also available.
