Both titles feature two-page spreads in full color with stunning pictorial bird’s-eye views (not a typical map’s abstractions) that focus on significant American journeys or historical sites. Accompanying explanatory text includes numbers that correspond with points of interest on the maps. Among the 20 historic journeys in Journeys in Time: Columbus, the Mayflower, Ben Franklin goes to Philadelphia (1723), Daniel Boone on the Wilderness Road, Lewis and Clark, the Santa Fe Trail, the Underground Railroad, migrant farm workers, and fleeing Vietnam. Among the 20 historic sites in Places in Time: Cahokia (1600), New Plymouth (1627), Charlestown (1739), Boonesborough (1776), Saratoga (1777), Taos (1823), Fort Laramie (1849), Lowell (1850), Gettysburg (1863), Ellis Island (1901), and Lakewood, California (suburbia, 1953).
