AGE OF EXPLORATION, 1492–1580

The main part of the map shows lands known by Europeans in 1490, trade routes, and routes of Portuguese, Spanish, and English expeditions. A secondary map shows the areas where the trade goods that represented the "riches of the Indies" (gold, silver, precious stones, porcelain, perfume, spices, cotton, and silk) were found. The map also includes a timeline of European exploration.
