CHRISTIAN-MUSLIM ENCOUNTERS IN THE MIDDLE AGES

The primary sources include documents spanning 700–1300 CE dealing with military encounters and different perspectives of Muslim and European Christians. The secondary passages differ in their views about the role of cooperation and conflict in the history of Muslim relations with the Christian West. Concluding exercises have students assess questions such as "Islam and Christianity share some of the same scriptural heritage, and both are monotheistic religions. How has this influenced the ways they have interacted, conflicted, and cooperated?"
