Based on the Hammond Concise Atlas of World History, the program parallels events of the past and present, showing how echoes of ancient civilizations speak to us through the centuries.
This episode looks at how the Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations of Central and South America built magnificent cities, with paved roads, universities, and majestic places of worship. The pre-Columbian empires are re-created as the program probes the reasons the empires were unable to withstand conquest by Spanish explorers.
