THE COMMON CORE READINESS GUIDE TO READING

Each book explains several close reading techniques and then provides five fiction and nonfiction excerpts that include "guided practice prompts" alerting readers to specific passages where they can profitably deploy particular tips and tricks: for example, launching jump-start clues, using text structure cues, breaking apart literary elements, monitoring point of view, or tuning in to tone. Each passage is followed by a brief self-assessment usually comprising several multiple-choice and one short-essay question similar to those on standardized tests. Plentiful illustrations and text boxes make the pages visually dynamic.
