Sources illustrate the different views of several delegates to the Constitutional Convention as well as some of those who argued for and against ratification. The secondary sources debate the question of whether the Constitution protected and entrenched slavery as an institution. Concluding exercises have students consider questions such as "Why do you think the Framers used such vague language when dealing with slavery in the Constitution?"
