Intimate scenes of everyday life in Manipur, India, show viewers a part of the world that is very different from America—except that the young people of Manipur are huge fans of baseball.
Caught between armed separatist insurgents and heavy-handed abuses from the government’s exercise of martial law, they find discipline—and hope—in learning to play the game. Archival footage reveals how baseball came to Manipur (from a WWII airfield protecting the Burma Road), while contemporary footage captures not only the dire modern-day political situation, but also the day-to-day experiences of some of the boys and girls and young men and women whose lives baseball transforms. Warning: violence, brief nudity, rare profanity.
