TREASON ON TRIAL

Through role-playing, students reenact six famous treason trials from American history, those of Aaron Burr, John Brown, Harrison H. Dodd, Dr. Samuel Mudd, Bill Blizzard, and Douglas Chandler.
Whether used as lead-ins to upcoming lessons or as wrap-up activities, the mock trials encourage students to think on their feet, question their own responses to historical situations, and consider new ways of thinking. Instructions show how to perform the trials either using a provided script, or improvised. Each lesson includes a background essay, a roles chart, a script, documentary evidence, discussion questions, extension activities, and sources.
