The primary sources focus on the ideas of Martin Luther and various reactions to him. The secondary sources make quite different overall judgments about the Protestant Reformation. Concluding exercises have students assess questions such as "Explain whether the Reformation was a purely religious upheaval or whether it was also a social, political, and economic upheaval."
