The Importance of Teaching Geographic Literacy

Literacy and social studies intersect in powerful and meaningful ways, as both subjects rely on the development of critical thinking, comprehension, and communication skills.

  Are leaders creating opportunities that will ensure that the next generation of educators has a sound foundation to stand on? Are we building capacity to create the next generation of change agents? I posed this very question to my colleagues some time ago.

January 2021 marks the fifth anniversary of the annual For-Teachers-by-Teachers Conference presented by our district, the Houston Independent School District.

Before we as educators are able to make thinking visible to students we have to first make the processes and procedures of thinking visible to ourselves.
