10 MODEL LESSONS AND SIMULATIONS IN GOVERNMENT

In one lesson, after taking the timed Louisiana "Literacy Test" formerly given to African Americans registering to vote, students discuss the ambiguities that prevented anyone from ever passing the test. In a simulation of a constitutional convention, students propose new amendments and vote on them. In other lessons, students formulate a plan to prevent terrorism at the Olympics, decide whether specific actions are constitutional, and devise a personal political platform.
