Archival black-and-white photographs reflect historic events, social and cultural changes, people, and technological advances in the U.S. from 1880 to 1920.
Each portfolio of 64 numbered, captioned photographs covers 20 years in American history, allowing students to study a particular era or trace a theme over the course of time. For example, pictures culled from each of the four portfolios can be matched with units on transportation, immigration, urbanization, or the changing role of women in American society. The teacher’s guides offer teaching strategies, reproducible activities, and an index to the photographs.
