ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS: OPENING UNIT

Includes three mini-units that can be taught consecutively or individually at any time throughout the year: one on the Five Themes of Geography, one on archaeology, and one on early humans. Activities include “Searching for Elvis,” “The Job of an Archaeologist,” “Artifact Trading and Moral Dilemmas,” “Neanderthals,” “Cro-Magnon Man,” and “Treasure Map.” The units involve a variety of activities, including classifying, abstracting, map work, reading, writing, speaking, researching, interpreting, presenting, and other higher-level thinking tasks.
