DYNAMIC DECADES

Students use a small-group approach to research as well as creative options for consolidating and sharing knowledge in five key areas: America and the world, daily life, science and technology, social issues, and culture. As few as five students or the entire class can take advantage of these flexible units that combine print and online research; jigsaw groups; preparing and presenting skits, newspapers, quiz games, or media presentations; and optional exercises that involve forming and defending opinions of each period’s important issues. The teacher’s guide for all units includes complete procedures, handout masters, detailed timelines, and a list of supplemental resources. Each decade runs for 10 to 20 class periods, depending on depth.
