Grounded in the belief that students learn best when they are active participants in their own learning, this unit follows the basic structure of a presidential election that students help create.
Students immerse themselves in a political environment by developing campaign headquarters and creating campaign workers to implement campaign strategies for the primary and national elections. Students decide how to respond when bad news about candidates threatens their campaigns. The unit comes to a conclusion when one candidate wins the national election and is inaugurated into office. Students from both parties then come together to celebrate the new president. Includes tips for using the unit with ELL students.
