Topics: British imperialism, commercial development in Africa, Japan’s response to the West, Germany’s "Place in the Sun," the Chinese boycott of American goods, the Sepoy Rebellion, the Opium War, and defenses and criticisms of imperialism. Assessment questions involve asking students to examine the reasons for imperialism in the 1800s, and to explain how Europeans justified their imperialistic endeavors.
