INDIANS OF THE CALIFORNIA MISSION FRONTIER

The book is richly illustrated with approximately 30 captioned illustrations (most in color) consisting of paintings, historical prints, artifacts, and maps. The authors, experts in archaeology and state history, draw extensively on primary sources to forgo myths and portray people and events as they really were. The book is divided into short chapters with subheads. Spanish terms are italicized, then translated into English. Topics: What were the stages of the mission program? Why did Native Californians come to the missions? How did the missions change the patterns of their daily lives? What were their religious practices? What happened to nonmission Indians?
