Presents an intimate and complex portrait of the Nixon presidency as seen from footage shot by three of Nixon's top aides (Haldeman, Ehrlichman, and Chapin) using Super 8 home movie cameras.
Seen for the first time since these film reels were seized by the FBI and forgotten for almost 40 years, the 2013 documentary combines the revelatory archival footage with voiceovers from interviews with the aides themselves to create a gripping narrative of the time before, during, and after the Watergate scandal. Along with candid scenes from public and private events, the film also incorporates segments of period newsreels covering events relating to the civil rights movement, moon landings, Vietnam protests, and more.
