The heart of the kit consists of nine desk-sized 11" x 17" markable maps: "Slave Population, 1820," "Slave Population, 1860," "Union & Confederacy, 1861," "War in the East, 1861–1862," "War in the West, 1861–1863," "War in the East, 1862–1863," "Gettysburg, July 1–3, 1863," "War in the Southeast, 1863–1865," and "The Road to Appomattox, 1864–1865." The kit also includes a CD-ROM containing high- and low-resolution image files of each map (ideal for use in PowerPoint^® presentations), and printable outline versions of the maps for assessment or project work. In addition to the full-color map, each poster includes a brief paragraph placing the map in historical context, and a map-reading question. Finally, the kit also comes with historical overviews, critical-thinking questions, and map-skill exercises.
