The Bill of Rights guarantees the separation of church and state through the First Amendment’s establishment clause, and through the 14th Amendment’s Incorporation Doctrine, which applies this clause to the states. As a result, there have been two important cases dealing with exhibiting the Ten Commandments, a religious symbol, on government property.
